Last time it was negligent discharge of a firearm. Now Shotgun Joe Biden is advising people that it is OK to shoot through the door if you want to keep people away from your home. This is a bad idea for a number of reasons. First this violates rule number four of Col. Jeff Cooper’s rules of gun safety which are as follows:
- All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)
- Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.
- Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.
Second it violates one of the most basic tenets of the use of lethal force. While laws on this may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, the general advice is that you cannot use lethal force unless you are in reasonable fear of death or grievous bodily harm. If someone is outside your home you’re going to have a tough time justifying shooting them when there is a barrier between the two of you. Plus you can’t be sure if it is Chester the Molester, Wanker Willie or if the local Girl Scout troop is across the street trying to sell some delicious cookies.
While Shotgun Joe Biden’s antics make for some good laughs among the cognoscenti, his advice is going to get someone killed who doesn’t deserve it and others in prison who thought what they were doing was legal. In fact, this may have already happened.
One would like to think if the advice being given is just that of a fool who envisions himself as some kind of tactical expert like so many internet keyboard commandos who like to regale their cadre of nuthuggers of their tales of daring do. While at the same time not knowing the difference between a folding stock and a collapsing stock or extolling the 9mm’s ability to turn someone inside out even with full-metal jacket ammunition.
However, this is an administration and a political group with an agenda. To disarm those who would oppose them. Confiscation is already being discussed in Congress and State Legislatures as are many other abuses of rights guaranteed by the Constitution simply because someone owns a firearm. Who is to say that this isn’t an attempt to get otherwise decent citizens charged with crimes that will forever revoke their right to touch a firearm?
We don’t know Shotgun Joe Biden’s true motives here but in closing I’d like to leave you this quote from The Smallest Minority:
The reality is that a segment of our society abuses the mechanisms of democracy to seek the authority of law to destroy the lives of honest men who offer harm to none, but who reject ideological compliance. Apparently, “comply or be destroyed” is now an acceptable American modus operandi.
