There are a lot of honors being bestowed today on the brave men who stormed the beaches of Normandy, today a statue of Major Dick Winters was unveiled  in the Normandy village of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont and dedicated to the memory of all junior U.S. military officers who served that day.  French President Francois Hollande was there paying tribute to the soldiers of the allied forces that took part in the D-Day invasion (and hopefully remembering the major role the French resistance played in ensuring the invasion succeeded), US President Barrack Obama on the other hand spent his day storming the beaches in California in order to participate in several campaign fundraisers. Neither he or his wife made plans to exploit this opportunity for a photo op commemorate D-Day.
